We invite you to experience Cornwall Executive English where everything is devoted to improving your English

LocationPadstow, nestling in the shelter of the Camel Estuary on the north coast of Cornwall, is one of the most delightful and least spoilt of Cornish fishing ports. Its narrow streets with stone and pastel painted houses run down to a colourful, bustling waterfront where you can watch the fascinating ebb and flow of ferries, fishing boats, yachts and pleasure cruisers. Padstow has spectacular coastal scenery, quiet beaches, and is the perfect place to relax after an intensive day of learning. Padstow also enjoys a very mild climate, with an early Spring and a long Summer.

But it is the Padstow people, and their unique customs that make Padstow so special. This really is a part of England that is still based around community spirit and local customs. Ask any Padstonian about May Day, and you will see a different look come into their eyes, for May Day is THE special day in the year for all people born in Padstow.

Witness the singing in one of the many pubs one evening, and it is something you will never forget. Hear the rockets go up announcing the call to 'man the lifeboat' and you too will be hoping for the safe return of these brave men who risk their lives to go to sea to help others in distress. Watch the men and women taking the gigs out for a row on training night, and you will see that these are strong-hearted people, used to a life of challenge. Life in Padstow is governed by the sea, and most importantly, by the tide. Spend just one week with us and you will pick up the habit of asking if the tide is going out or coming in, what time is high water, and can we walk to Tregirls along the beach now. Homestay tuition with Cornwall Executive English involves you in a very special way of life, and you become part of the local community during your stay, participating in the many special activities which take place in this unique town.

Cornwall Executive English offers you so much more.

We provide a very specialised service for you, as we are totally dedicated to helping you improve your English.

We are very aware that you have a limited amount of time to devote to your English studies. We therefore ensure that you have every opportunity to practise English and to participate fully in a very English way of life during your stay with us.

We provide 4.5 hours of intensive, formal tuition per day in our specially equipped training centre. However, we ensure that at least one of us is available at all other times for general conversation and discussion.

We invite you to share our way of life with us during your stay, and we encourage you to practise English all the time, helping you with idioms, colloquial expressions, and polite phrases.

Whether we are strolling along the beach, shopping at the supermarket, the post office or Norman's the butchers, we invite you to practise and learn. We are happy to relax with you over a glass of wine in the conservatory or the garden in the evening, or by the lovely log fire in the cooler months.

We'll take you to the pub (there are quite a few of them) and if you're lucky, you'll experience the special atmosphere when the locals start singing their own unique songs. Friends drop in for coffee, lunch or dinner, and you will be able to participate fully in our social activities during your stay.

AccommodationGambia, our home

Gambia, the private home of Neil and Gill Vivian, is the perfect location for individual homestay tuition. The detached house, standing in its own grounds, has beautiful gardens and superb views of the Camel Estuary. The specially equipped training centre is a separate building, ensuring that formal tuition is kept apart from the more relaxed social environment of the house and gardens.

Gambia offers you a high standard of accommodation, together with peace and tranquility.

Clients have their own delightful bedroom and private bathroom facilities. Bedlinen and towels are provided, as well as a bathrobe and hairdryer.

Gill is an excellent cook, and caters for all tastes and dietary requirements. Clients are invited to join us in the kitchen whilst meals are being prepared to discuss menus, recipes and cooking styles.

Breakfast is an informal meal, usually consisting of tea or coffee, fresh fruit, cereals, toast/bread and home-made marmalade and jams. Lunch is usually a light snack or sandwich with fresh fruit. Dinner is usually served at 19.30 and is substantial. Wine is offered most evenings. Meals are often eaten in the garden in the summer

The specially equipped training centre at Gambia is unique, and is available to clients at all times for private study

Gambia is ideally situated for clients who wish to go for a walk or go jogging after an intensive day in the classroom. The coastal path is just 100 metres along the lane, with fantastic views of the estuary and sea. Many clients choose to join us for a quick walk after lunch before the afternoon sessions begin.

The harbour is only 3 minutes? walk from Gambia, and there is a wide variety of pubs, an attractive selection of shops, a fish market, post office, health treatments centre and three banks.

Sports and Social Activities Option

At Cornwall Executive English, we know that not all learning has to take place in the classroom. We therefore offer optional social activities as an important feature of the tuition we provide. Presentation work and discussions can be based around these visits, making them an additional educational benefit whilst providing variety and entertainment to the educational curriculum.

All social activities and sports will be accompanied (15 hours per week in total), to ensure the client obtains maximum benefit, and continues to think and speak in English.

A selection of social activities on offer:
  • The Eden Project - Cornwall's newest attraction. A world-class visitor destination designed to celebrate, study and promote an understanding of the complex and critical relationship between people, plants and resources
  • Minack Theatre visit during the season mid-May to mid-Sept, we include a visit to the world famous Minack Theatre, located on the Cornish cliffs near Land's End www.minack.com
  • Dinner at a local restaurant we choose a restaurant to suit you for dinner in Padstow one night during your stay
  • Cinema visit we arrange a visit to a local cinema to see a film of your choice
  • Lanhydrock House - a wonderful glimpse into the life of a Victorian country house
  • St Enodoc Church - discovered buried beneath the sands, and now the final resting place of poet laureate Sir John Betjeman

Sport is an important part of this option, as the course can be very intensive, and clients need time away from the training centre to 'clear their heads'. What better way then, than to take advantage of the wide range of sports and activities on the doorstep:
  • Cycling on the Camel Trail - follow the estuary from Padstow to Wadebridge and beyond by bicycle
  • Sea Fishing - either from the shore or from a boat. Catch your dinner which we will then barbecue for you.
  • Golf at Trevose or St Enodoc - both championship courses right on the doorstep (NB clients must pay their own green fees)
  • Surfing - the beaches of North Cornwall are renowned for the surfing (dependent on weather and tide)
