English Language Centre
King's College London University of LondonThe English Language Centre is accredited by the British Council. We offer tuition in English for Academic Purposes (EAP) throughout the year. This includes a university foundation course for undergraduates and postgraduates, and a Pre-sessional summer course which is also accredited by BALEAP (the British Association of Lecturers in English for Academic Purposes). In addition, we service the English language needs of various external commercial, legal and other institutions by designing and teaching tailor-made courses. The ELC has founded and established a highly successful and innovative MA in ELT & Applied Linguistics and has been instrumental in establishing the Institute for Applied Language Studies under whose auspices it is now taught. We are also very actively involved in language teacher training/education, periodically running a range of pre- and in-service training courses for native and overseas teachers. Moreover, we are a thriving centre for Cultural Studies, collaborating with the British Council and with other universities and colleges world-wide, and publishing extensively.
King's College boasts a long tradition of teaching English to
international students dating back to the mid-1930s. In 1987 the English
Language Centre (ELC) was established as a department within the School
of Humanities and has since grown considerably in terms of both its
staff/student body as well as the types and variety of its courses.
Today, the Centre prides itself on being a highly professional
department that delivers courses of the highest quality via experienced
