The Institute of Medical Sciences

at the University of Lincoln

Introduction

The Institute of medical sciences provides high quality professionally accredited undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes in biomedical and medical sciences. It aims to fulfil the mission set by the University to meet the challenge of providing quality 21st century medical care through the education and training as well as continuing professional development for doctors and biomedical scientists at hospitals, clinics, blood banks and practices. The Institute works with senior medical practitioners and biomedical scientists in the region to form a partnership that develop and improve medical care in the region.

In developing approaches and solutions to the challenges facing the medical and biomedical professions, the institute utilises resources wider than a single University in order to enhance the learner `s experience by drawing on a number of distinguished consultants and visiting Professors to support its work. Through its strong links with medical schools in France, Germany, USA and United Kingdom it provides access to some of the leading biomedical and medical research in specific areas outlined in the research activity of its academic staff.

 

Focus

The Institute focuses on three interactive themes in all its activities:
  • Internationally competitive medical, clinical and biomedical research projects leading to novel and significant findings and/or advances in medical care.
  • Professional accreditation to all its undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes to ensure their relevance to the skills, knowledge and competencies required in Doctors and biomedical scientists.
  • Strong national and international collaboration with distinguished academic staff from medical schools to ensure high quality research publications and output.

Student Support

International Advice and Development Worker

To support the differing needs of students coming to study in a country that is not their own, and learning in a second language, the University has an International Advice and Development worker within the Advice Service to provide advice and support on a wide range of subjects.

Support is available to you before arrival, on arrival and throughout the duration of your studies. As part of this support, an International Student Handbook is designed to assist you with your preparations for Study in the United Kingdom, and gives advice on how to get organised when you arrive. It includes information on immigration requirements, travel, accommodation, financial matters, medical care, insurance, postal services, culture and leisure.
