The University of Northampton United Kingdom

Why Choose The University of Northampton?

Introduction

At the University of Northampton we believe that every individual is important and over the years have built a solid reputation for high quality teaching delivered within a caring, supportive academic community. At the same time, we have invested heavily in research which compliments and enhances our teaching.

The Campuses

University of Northampton is based on two sites some 2 miles apart. A free bus service runs between the two campuses. A £65 million investment programme over the last 8 years has ensured that our facilities are of the highest possible standards. This development has included new on-campus Halls of Residence with 1, 632 single study rooms, the majority of which have en-suite facilities. Many rooms have Internet access as well.

Park Campus is a leafy greenfield site set in 80 acres of parkland on the outskirts of town with lots of open space as well as shops, library and student residences.

Avenue Campus, located one mile from the town centre, also has student residences, shops and library and, in addition, boasts first class facilities for art, drama, graphic design and fashion.

The University College is home to some 7, 000 full-time students and 3, 000 part-time students. It is large enough to offer a wide range of top quality modern facilities, but at the same time, small enough to retain a friendly atmosphere in which students feel they are an important part of a community.

International Students

University of Northampton welcomes international students. We value the richness and cultural diversity you bring to our academic community. We now have over 700 students from around 100 different countries and provide for them a high-quality university experience with well-structured courses, top-quality teaching and a first-class environment. We are committed to supporting you throughout your time with us - from your first enquiry to graduation and beyond.

Northampton is an historic county town located in the centre of England. It is a thriving community with one of the fastest-growing economies in the United Kingdom, served by first class road and rail links. Much of the surrounding countryside is rural and typically English with rich farmland and picturesque villages. Northampton town centre has a wealth of shopping opportunities including indoor and outdoor markets and modern shopping centres. There are two theatres, two multi-screen cinemas, beautiful parks and gardens and a wide range of sports facilities.

Whilst living in Northampton you will be within easy travelling distance of many cultural and historic sites - Oxford, Cambridge, Stratford-upon-Avon and Birmingham are all close by. London with its many attractions is less than one hour away. The University College is easily accessible from Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton and Birmingham International airports.

What Can I Study?

In order to respond to the differing needs of international students we have put together a variety of courses to enable you to study with us. We offer the following courses:

Foundation/Pre-Degree programme

Our one-year Foundation/Pre-degree programme is designed for students whose academic qualifications do not meet our minimum entry requirements. The programme offers a number of subject related pathways. Successful completion of the course will enable you to proceed to degree level study at UCN or other United Kingdom institutions.

Diploma

Our Diploma courses are designed to equip students with the knowledge, understanding and skills required for success in current and future employment. They offer a broad based and practical set of modules, studied over a period of two years. Students who perform well at Diploma level have the opportunity in several subject areas to convert their Diploma to a full honours degree by undertaking a further year of study.

The entry requirements for Diploma courses are more flexible than for degree level study.

Undergraduate

We offer over 100 courses across more than 50 subject areas for study at undergraduate level. Subjects can be studied on their own (single honours) or combined in a variety of ways (Joint or Combined Honours). The majority of our undergraduate courses are of three years duration. We also have some four year courses which incorporate either a work placement or a period of study overseas.

Postgraduate

Our one year taught Masters programmes offer the opportunity for students to extend their studies by continuing to specialise in their undergraduate subject area. Some courses are specifically designed to allow students to move into other subject areas to enhance their career progression.  Our MA Management Studies course, for example, is specifically designed for students who have not studied business as part of their undergraduate course.

There are also opportunities for students to progress to postgraduate degrees by research, culminating in M.Phil or Ph.D awards.

English Language

If you do not meet our English language entry requirements, we offer a variety of courses lasting from one month to one year, to enable you to obtain the standard required. All our English language courses have English United Kingdom accreditation.

Students who are awarded a UCN scholarship will receive a reduction of up to 30% on their tuition fees.
