Our expertise, innovative approach and academic rigour ensure our place as a world-class business school and our relevance for both today and tomorrow's business world. The University founded a business school in 1965 and has one of the longest established business schools in the United Kingdom. Recently two other departments of the University of Durham. Economics and Finance and the Foundation for Small and Medium Enterprise Development have integrated with the Business School to create a larger multi-disciplined school with an increased scale of academic, financial, administrative and physical resources. This offers you a school that works across the various components of business, finance and management and solutions that work across organisational boundaries. The new school formally titled "The University of Durham School of Economics, Finance and Business" is known as "Durham Business School". The University of Durham's Economics, Finance and Business Board of Studies governs the various activities of the school. The Board of Studies consists of our faculty, administrators and students. All three have developed a collegiate system to help keep the personal touch, ensuring that you are never lost in the crowd. The University has 14 colleges and societies ranging from University College, housed in Durham castle, to more modern colleges adjacent to the Business School on the edge of the City, but still only 10 minutes walk from the city centre. Durham is one of an elite group of universities that is recognised both for its sporting prowess and its academic reputation. The culture of the rounded individual is mirrored in the aims of the Business School. Durham City Durham is one of the world's great cities. One thousand years old, this Millennium City offers a quality of life unrivalled by its peers. The dramatic setting, with its great Cathedral and Castle (one of the University's colleges) perched on a rocky peninsula almost surrounded by the River Wear, forms a World Heritage Site. The City is large enough to house the full range of entertainment, cultural and retail outlets expected in a city, but small enough to be charming, friendly, safe, and welcoming to visitors.
